Semantic Shortcuts
CUE's
semantic shortcuts are so called because they are based on meaningful
action names, in order to make them easy to remember. You can access
the shortcuts anywhere in CUE by pressing the Shift
key twice in quick succession. A small menu in a black box is then
displayed listing the shortcuts currently available, for example:
C Create... G Go to...
Pressing one of the suggested keys will either perform the
corresponding action or (if the action name is followed by ...)
display another menu containing further keypress options. Pressing the
G
key when the above menu is displayed will, for
example display this menu:
I General Info S Sections T Tags R Relations Ctrl+Alt+R A Authors U Usage
Pressing the key sequence Shift Shift G A
will, in
other words execute the command "Go to
Authors", which displays the the
Authors metadata panel.
The use of keypress options based on meaningful action names together with the menu display make CUE semantic shortcuts self-documenting and easy to learn.
The available shortcuts vary according to context. If you want to know
what shortcuts are available in your current context, just press
Shift Shift
to display the shortcut menu.
You can use the semantic shortcut menus as a way of learning standard shortcuts too: If a semantic shortcut has a standard shortcut alternative, then the standard shortcut is listed in the menu alongside the semantic shortcut (as in the case of the Relations entry in the example shown above).
