In Content Studio if it sees a content having links with this relation, for each link it will use the URL and open it in the side panel.

From above example we can see there are two link relation with http://www.vizrt.com/types/relation/more-info for the content. When Content Studio opens this article it will open following URL in the side panel of the content editor.
