Standard Function Keys and Shortcuts

Here are some of the most commonly used function keys and shortcuts. There are more, that you can discover by using the semantic shortcut mechanism described in Semantic Shortcuts.

The plus sign in shortcut descriptions is used to indicate that keys should be pressed together. In other words, Ctrl+c below means hold the Ctrl and C keys down simultaneously. On a Mac you should use the Cmd key instead of the Ctrl key.

Space

Select highlighted object (equivalent to single mouse click)

Enter

Open selected object(s) (equivalent to double mouse click)

Up, Down arrow

Move highlight/selection up and down in a list. Holding down the Shift key simultaneously extends/shrinks the selection where appropriate.

Tab

Move focus to next field. Hold down the Shift key to move the focus to the previous field

Delete

Delete selected object(s)

Backspace

Delete selected object(s)

Home

Move highlight/selection to the first item in a list. Holding down the Shift key simultaneously extends/shrinks the selection where appropriate.

End

Move highlight/selection to the last item in a list. Holding down the Shift key simultaneously extends/shrinks the selection where appropriate.

Cut selected object(s)

Paste into selected location

Ctrl+s

Save current editor state

Ctrl+z

Undo last editor action

Shift+Ctrl+p

Display preview (in any editor that has a preview button)

Change heading weight in rich text editor (Shift+Alt-2, for example, applies the HTML h2 style).
